By Roderick Osis

MULTI-TITLED Baguio-based race car driver Carlos Anton timed in 52.306, three seconds ahead of Jem Quirimit and Edward dela Rosa in Group A to take the Binalonan leg of Circuit Showdown held recently.

The Binalonan leg proved to be the most challenging layout to date with cars reaching speeds of over 160 kilometers per hour (kph) on the straights breaking into a series of technical corners, which caused spinouts from a field of over 40 participants.

Group B winners were Alfie Concepcion, followed by female driver Nicole Dipasupil and Jessie Magar. Group C wins went to Dwight de la Cruz and 14-year-old Cedric Remo and Cay-Ulrich Torio. Group D winners included Francis Zulueta, Reymund de Vera, and Bong Dacororn.

Group E winners were to Jonathan Guinto, Marben Nazal and Thomas Bautista.

In Group F, finishing off the Time Trial brackets but winning nonetheless were Dominique Cardenas, Dennis Manantan and Rodolfo Bildan Jr.

The event is supported by Duro Tires, Rota Wheels, DKC Tire Center, Speedlab, Dynapack, Richmond Autoparts, Discovery Suites, Mishimoto, Blox, Recaro, Pitworkz by Hongly, Foil A Car, XYZ Suspension, Z Works Carbon, Runstop Rotors, ECW Performance, Dynamic Suspension, HKS Lubricants, Garage 88 Bar and Resto, C! Magazine, Turbo Time, Stoplight TV and 99.5RT.

Marc Thomann earlier posted a new lap record for the West Course during the Subic Bay leg with an astounding time of 1:06:363, followed closely by seasoned driver Carlos Anton (1:06:730).

Other winners were Eggy Ong, Bracket B; Rico Cheng, Bracket C; Christian Sedano, Bracket D; Jonnie Pineda, Bracket E; and Walter Zamora, Bracket F. With the unexpected number of Grid Racers, the races were sorted into brackets giving spectators six exciting races to watch with plenty of dicing and action at every corner.

Grid Race B proved to be the most challenging for competitors, who were served 30 second penalties for breaking out of the allowable lap times during the race itself. When the checkered flag was waved, back-to-back wins were scored in races 3 and 4 by Ferdinand Sia, Grid A; Mark Sy, Grid B; and Mark Peterson, Grid R.
