UFC dreams up for Team Lakay

FRESH FROM their recent victory in the Universal Reality Combat Championship, Team Lakay will not sit on its laurels.

In fact, the country’s fearsome mix martial arts team are now negotiating with the world’s top mma promotion firm, the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“Negotiations are now underway for a possible spot in the UFC,” said Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao.

At least two fighters from Team Lakay are now being considered top join the world’s biggest mix martial arts promotion firm with URCC welterweight champion Eduard Folayang and URCC flyweight champion Kevin Belingon.

Folayang is being eyed to fight in the lightweight division and has been earlier rumored to set foot in the UFC sometime in 2009 but the plan simply fizzled out while Belingon, owner of 9-0 card in the URCC will be up in the bantamweight division.

“Hopefully we could land a deal in the UFC kais matagal na rin nating pangarap na magkaroon ng Igorot fighter sa UFC, ” added Sangiao.

Sangiao meanwhile said several events are being line-up by the group in their effort to promote mix martial arts in the region and at the same time discover talents that would soon be part of the team’s legacy in mix martial arts.

The former wushu national team member said there will be another wushu xanda – mma competition by the end of the month and another grappling competition this May.

“Every other month yung magiging tournament natin para maka develop din tayo ng mga players for future competitions,” Sangiao continued. Roderick Osis
