Manila sports editors capture 1st Fil-Am Media championship

MANILA sports editors golf team edged Baguio media team 2, 132-128, to capture the 1st Fil-Am Baguio-Manila Media Golf Tournament at the Jack Nicklaus golden bear international designed Camp John Hay golf links.

Philippine Star sports editor Lito Tacujan breezed with 37 points in the challenging par 69 championship course.

Ted Melendres of Inquirer showing perfect putting form finished with 35, Rey Bancod of Tempo, despite his short game difficulties, came up with 32 while Ding Marcelo of Manila Bulletin came home with a 28.

Meanwhile, Sun.Star Baguio general manager Peter Rey Bautista of Baguio Media team sizzled with an early sandy birdie on the par 5 hole no. 1 for a 1 under par score in the front nine.

“I missed birdie putts, greens were swift and tricky today,” expressed the former Baguio mayor after finishing with 38 points under the molave scoring system.

Joining Bautista were Andrew Pinero of Skycable Baguio, -18; Richard Valdez- PTV 4/CordilleraVoice.com, -24; and John Hays Steve Mc Donald who conquered the pine tree lined course with a blazing 54 points.

Baguio Media Team 2 got third place with 97 points from former Benguet Governor Raul Molintas who made 38 points, Andy Zapata of Philippine Star with a 24, Joseph Esteras, PTV 4 18 and another Inquirer sports enthusiast, Frank Cimatu contributing 17 points.
